Like the past 2 days, I slept longer this morning but not because I wanted to but because I had to. My alarm clock, I think, was tired too. Now it was going off not once a day but 4 to 5 times! Even though I am trying to adapt to the Dymaxion schedule, I think it’s too hard for my body and mind. Unknowningly, I am following the Everyman schedule instead. (Comparison of Sleep Patterns). I should give my body it’s own time to adjust and not put it in a state of shock. Once I am well adjusted in the Everyman schedule, I will slowly start decreasing the time of the large chunk of sleep till I can hit Dymaxion schedule.
Apart from this dilemma, the rest of the day was fine. I noticed that I had increased concentration after short naps but had lower than normal concentration by the end of 4-5 hours of a nap. If the nap lasted more than 40 minutes, then it wasn’t as pleasant after waking up. I felt like sleeping more then but if I restricted the nap to less than 40 minutes then no such need was felt. Today I slept from 12.15 pm to 12.50 pm and 7.15 pm to 7.40 pm.
hi akshat,
i am currently studying in UICT, Final Year (Textiles)..
i have read almost all your articles and i really like ur style of thinking and looking at life …its always a pleasure to read blogs written by people with open n unconditioned minds like u..
but i m kinda really shocked to read abt this polyphasic sleep thing.. the research seems comparatively new..
are u sure tht the long term effects are nt harmful….
course, if u believe tht they arent , they surely wont be !..
half glass full syndrome after all…
I’m glad u enjoyed reading my blog. It’s a pleasure to have readers from my Alma mater. I look fwd to your thoughts on the other articles.
As for polyphasic sleeping, I understand your concern. I have given it a lot of thought too. There isn’t enough long term studies available on this subject and I believe the reason might be that ethical bodies might not allow such tests. Whatever that might be I think there are some markers that suggest if your body likes what you do or not. First thing, I believe is your stomach. I’ve never had to deal with a stomach upset except once or twice during the adaptation. Second, general alertness of the body. My general alertness is much more than before. There is increased concentration during times after nap and my concentration level does not drop. I’ve not had body aches or head aches, I’ve not fallen ill. Instead, I’ve reduced my coffee and alcohol intake to a bare minimum.
All in all there are more advantages to this than disadvantages and I believe it’s completely worth pursuing.
