In continuation to the series that starts here
A notice was put up on the Old Hostel Notice Board for students who wanted to shift to the New Hostel. After all the chemical engineering students had shifted from the Hostel # 3 there was space for more and we techies were invited. The fees for the new hostel were considerably higher but worth-it-all. Most of decided to shift in spite of the cost (after all we were living in central Mumbai for just Rs 1500 a month!

All of us techies were given the 5th floor. Lovely place. For me the whole point of living in Mumbai was living in a high rise building! Although 5 floors was not too high, in the area surrounding the hostel there were harldy any buildings higher than 3 floors. (It was probably because those were buildings of the oldest inhabitants of Mumbai).
When we were leaving the old hostel we were warned by the seniors not to go. They said that there would be no tech seniors around (as no senior was going to shift to the new hostel although they were allowed to). They thought that we will not be able to develop a culture amongst are juniors (They were partly right!) There has been huge fall in the interaction with the batches that followed.
Now after three years, things have pretty much settled down. As we leave there will be space for 20 more techies. By the end of 2011, there will be abou 80-90 techies and 100-120 Chem Enggies, making it a balanced hostel. There is a lot I can talk about how Hostel #5 has come to be the best hostel. I’ll do that in some other post.
